Running the S-loop

Like a suburban kid on a couch, complaining that his mom never buys the good junk food.
How was the run?
We’re all a little under the weather, here in the Sorese household, so I ran 2 miles today instead of the scheduled 3.1. Trying to keep up my activity while listening to my body.
How was the album?
I’m not sure it's fair to listen to an album like Dookie for the first time in 2023 and conclude that it's overrated. There’s a reason why it’s one of the best-selling albums of all time, and it’s not because millions of people bought into the hype.
The lyrics are smartly written about the same stoner-malaise that many of their contemporaries slung to great success, including stuff I continue to really like; Daria, Douglas Coupland, SLC Punk, Celebrity Death Match.
But I’m able to retcon their complaints about how difficult the early 90s were by knowing that Billie Joe now owns a $10 million dollar mansion in California and that their music has faded into the background of defunct shopping malls. I can see the arc of history relegating them to sit next to Glenn Danzig in the annals of Rock and Roll. I’ve seen American Idiot: The Musical.
In the end, these ratings are based on how much me, personally, Logan Sorese, enjoyed an album on a run in early autumn, 2023. Which is to say this album doesn’t hold up as well as many albums it influenced and I don't care for Billie Joe’s tone; do you know what your father has to put up with at the factory to provide for this family?
Where can I listen?
It’s not on Bandcamp, but here’s a tribute album that’s probably just as good.
